Some association use anniversary expiration approach and some use calendar year approach. Both have pros and cons.
Anniversary-based expiration results in constant unending flow of renewals and having to chase your members' dues payments all year long.
Calendar Year based expirations result in massive amout of renewals that need to be processed within short period of time stressing out membership and finance teams.
How about the best of both worlds?
Our client decided to set membership expirations for each member to the last day of the month they joined the association. This approach offered predictable scheduling and process flow while spreading out the renewal process into manageable chunks.
The Member Management System did not have the functionality to compute the last day of the month for new members and set it as their expiration date. This resulted in the membership department having to update each new member's expiration date manually during the new member approval process. Zapier to the rescue! A simple 4-step zap was able to grab new members as they join the association, calculate the last day of the month, and update their expiration date field almost instantaneously.
