This automation is very popular and has a wide variety of scenarios. Such automations are very useful when things happen to member records in external systems that do not have direct integration with the main system of record and fields in the main system must be updated to reflect changes to groups of member records.
Here are some scenarios:
Members take tests to obtain various certifications at a testing facility or online. The results of the tests are sent to the organization in an Excels or a .CSV file. Staff was spending significant time manually updating member records with various certifications, dates, and credit hours.
Bulk update of the elected officials with their district and other pertinent information. Employees were wasting a good deal of time after each election sifting through a variety of Excel and .CSV files and manually updating or creating records in the Member Database. Zapier had automated this entire process.
Bulk import new person records supplied by an education course provider and notify membership department when an incoming record belonged to a known individual already in the database. This was treated as an exception and needed manual resolution. In the past, before process automation, human error frequently resulted in duplicate record creation. Zapier automated data load and exception handling.
